SLFS Covid-19 Update

Published in Events & News

March 24, 2020

We’re rolling with the punches, just like you . . .

Hello everyone,

We hope you are doing okay after the 5.7 earthquake we experienced on March 18. It was more rolling than we needed, and a really not-cool way to take our minds off the coronavirus pandemic.

These huge events are scary for a non-profit arts group like SLFS. We are helping each other to stay positive and brave in terms of business uncertainties and personal mindsets. Please know that our facilities and people survived the quake just fine, and that is indeed great news.

True human hardship is evident all around us as SLFS focuses on keeping our organization whole so that we will be here for you when the time is right. Movie theaters have always served as a source of solace in hard times. We want to be showing movies and popping popcorn and creating conversations. We want to anticipate each new release with excitement, knowing the comfort that comes from bringing community together.

Please consider making a donation today so that we can keep our key people employed and reopen as soon as it is safe to do so. Many thanks to those who have donated already. We are so grateful.

Look in on us periodically and watch our social media for updates and various fun things.

Stay safe in the meantime.

We love you all.

SLFS Update 3/13/20

We're Closing at 6 pm Today!

For the health and well-being of our patrons and staff, and in response to recent developments surrounding COVID-19, we will be closed until April 17.
As a safety precaution, and consistent with our peers across the independent cinema/ art-house community, the Salt Lake Film Society has decided to close its venues, the Broadway Centre Cinemas and the Tower Theatre, until April 17.

The decision to temporarily close has been reached after much deliberation and in consideration of our venues’ roles as gathering places with high-volume foot traffic. Despite having recently implemented enhanced sanitation measures, reduced seating capacity, and other precautionary measures, we have concluded that the best course of action at this time is a temporary closure in response to the serious and unexpected risk to community health posed by COVID-19.

By closing our venues, we are prioritizing the health and safety of customers, staff, and the community at large, including vulnerable populations.

We ask that you remember we are a federally recognized 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization and as a result, we will still be accepting new Red Carpet Club members, financial donations, and sponsorships. Public support is especially appreciated during this time and will help SLFS to reopen with minimal disruption as soon as it is appropriate to do so.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. We look forward to resuming business and welcoming our dear patrons upon reopening.

In the meantime, please visit here for the latest information regarding updates.
